On Tuesday 3 November - Freya, Ruth and I, as well as the Year 8 team (Iona, Emily, Marcus and Euan) went to Gosforth Central Middle School to take part in the North East Kids Lit Quiz heats. We even brought along Yoda, our lucky mascot, who played his own role. Thankfully we weren't disqualified for having a 5 person team! When we arrived, it was all a bit of a buzz! There was a bookstall selling books by the authors who were there (Anne Fine and Gill Arbuthnott), and we got some books signed, as well as having some lovely conversations with them.

When the quiz (finally) started, we were all very excited. We didn't do too well in the first four rounds, however, after the break we did much better, winning the Time round and scoring full marks on the Vegetables round! At the end of the penultimate round we were second with 69 points. Unfortunately we only scored 5 in the final round giving us a score of 74. This left us in third place, 2 points behind Corbridge Middle Year 8 team and 4 points behind St Joseph's Year 8 team. In the end we beat every private school and Tyne Valley took the crown! Every member of the Year 7 team was given a £10 book voucher and a certificate for coming 3rd out of the 33 teams who took part.

The team is very thankful to Ms Hughff and Miss Hodgson who both put lots of time and effort into making sure we all got the best out of this great experience.

Louis, Year 7 team.
