Before half term KS3 participated in the "Make Your Mark" campaign by the UK Youth Parliament. We all received a ballot paper with 10 options of factors which affect us, for example, a curriculum for life, mental health, transport and many other things. It felt amazing to have a part in a national debate where it felt like our ideas mattered to Parliament.
The top 5 topics voted for nationally were:
1) A Living Wage
2) A Curriculum to prepare us for life
4) Mental Health
5) Tackling racism and religious discrimination, particularly against people who are Muslim or Jewish
We are looking forward to watching the debate live in form time and seeing the outcome. Implementing the Living Wage was the overall winner in KS3 and it will be interesting to see if that will be the national campaign for the UK Youth Parliament next year.
