The Year 7 HMS Girls' football team have won the Tynedale School Girls' Indoor Football Tournament! Below is the article published in the Hexham Courant about the fantastic victory:

In a tight competition throughout, they edged the Tynedale Year 7 girls‘ competition by defeating Ovingham Middle 2-1 in a nail-biting final at Haydon Bridge High School tonight (January 13).

Another goal from the tournament’s leading scorer Josie and Phoebe earned them the Tynedale title, the goals coming either side of a strike for Ovingham.

Hexham and Ovingham met for the first time in game two and neither side could find a winner, Josie and Stacey on target in the 1-1 draw.

Hexham followed it up with a 2-0 triumph over Haydon Bridge with Josie getting both goals.

A place in the final was up for grabs when Haydon Bridge and Ovingham met, but the goalless stalemate meant it was the team in the East of Tynedale going through to meet Hexham who ended their group games with a slender 1-0 win over Highfield, Josie again on target.

The final was just as close as all other six games with all girls giving good accounts of themselves, and it is Hexham going through to battle it out in the county finals at North Shields on Wednesday.
