It is fantastic to know that when a competition opportunity is presented that you get a huge up take in interest. Following an initial presentation by Esh by Trivselhus, over 50 students from Years 7 and 8 expressed an interest in entering a design competition to come up with an idea for a house of the future. A visit to Hexham Gate was the catalyst for students in thinking about exciting ways to develop the way we live, work and play.

The standard and quality of presentation material produced by the design teams are excellent. I am overwhelmed by the level of enthusiasm and commitment that students have put into the project. This involved students carrying out research in the own time, coming to lunchtime workshops and in some cases, groups have met at weekends to develop their ideas further.

A huge thank you to Esh by Trivselhus is necessary as they brought this opportunity to our school. Students have benefitted immensely from learning outside the classroom to develop their team skills. Some students have even said there are seriously considering a career in architecture and the construction-related industries. Students not only had to design a new home fit for the dynamic demands of future sustainability requirements, but also need to consider interior design and the true meaning of a 'home'.

Well done to all the students involved
