Sports Day this year will be happening on Friday 14 July 2017. The event will take place on both Beaumont and Fellside fields from 9:30am – 3:00pm, weather permitting. Pupils should come to school wearing their PE shorts, socks and running shoes. This year we are asking that pupils wear a t-shirt in their house colours, they will wear this all day.

• Coquet – RED
• Tweed – GREEN
• Aln – BLUE
• Wansbeck – YELLOW OR WHITE (we know it is tricky to find yellow t-shirts)

Pupils should also bring a non-fizzy drink, a sitter (newspaper wrapped inside a plastic carrier bag) and sunscreen if required.

We promote an inclusive programme with events for everyone. However, we do have a number of County Champions who will be competing, so some events will be particularly keenly contested. The competition events will start at 9:45am. We hope to have the morning events finishing by 12:15pm with a lunch break until 1:15pm. The afternoon events will begin at 1.25pm and continue to a close with the cup presentation at 3:00pm.

You are most welcome to join us.

We look forward to seeing you on a dry calm day!

Mr Gaines & Miss Carruthers

On Thursday 15 June 2017, three pupils from the Sixth Form at QEHS came to school to work with Year Eight pupils on drama workshops inspired by the study of Shakespeare's Othello. The year group enjoyed two sessions: one based on movement, using handkerchiefs (a symbol of Othello's love for his wife, Desdemona), the other focused on two key scenes from the play and encouraged the children to watch and react to these performances. The afternoon was lively, engaging and energetic, pupil feedback was very positive and it is hoped that in the near future, more opportunities for drama-based learning can be facilitated, in collaboration with students at QEHS. Many thanks to Eve, Elizabeth and Clare for planning and delivering such a successful afternoon.

On Tuesday 6 June 2017, pupils from HMS raised the rafters of Hexham Abbey as part of Opera North’s ‘Big Sing.’ Over the last few weeks, the children have received training in vocal technique from professional opera singers that enabled them to master some very complex pieces of music that would normally be the preserve of highly trained vocalists. The children’s hard work culminated in a fantastic performance at Hexham Abbey, where the pupils had the opportunity to sing as the chorus alongside professional opera singers and orchestra under the direction of a conductor from Opera North. Very well done to all those who took part!
