On Tuesday 19 April 2016, our Year 8 pupils will engage in a day of exciting STEM activities. These sessions will be led by visiting staff from Newcastle University and by our own specialist teaching staff. Sessions will include: ‘Mystery Maths’ (a problem solving development session) and Computer Science as well as exciting Maths, Design Technology and Science activities.

This cross-curricular day will immerse our Year 8 pupils in the world of STEM and will hopefully generate excitement and discussion that will translate into classroom learning over the coming half term.

We hope you agree that this day will provide a fantastic learning experience and we look forward to sharing feedback from the day!

An electronic copy of the letter we sent home regarding the Year 6 Easter Revision resources is now available.

Have a fantastic holiday!

Mr Watters and Miss Johnson.

Pupils in Year Five and Seven were treated to a thrilling presentation by the acclaimed children’s author Peter J Murray this week. During the two-hour-long presentation, he shared anecdotes about his life as an author, read extracts from his spooky children’s books and answered questions from pupils.

Pupils are engaging extremely well with the Sumdog Maths Contest. As it stands, three of our classes are occupying 8th, 9th and 10th place on the County Leaderboard! Let's keep playing and get HMS to the top!

It has been great to hear so many pupils loving the contest. Many have said 'you don't even realise you're learning!'.

One of our pupils is currently 14th on the Individual Pupil Leaderboard... I'll let the suspense build for that!

Kev Sutherland Workshop – 8M2 English – Tuesday 15 March 2016

Written by Kiona, Year 8

Today was amazing because Kev Sutherland came in to see us. When we were working, he was drawing all kinds of characters, from superheroes to Dennis the Menace!

Following three successful days spent at QEHS as part of their transition, Year Eight were asked to write about their experiences.  Below are a selection of comments from the pupils on what they thought about the Taster Days and their first experience of the high school.

  • ‘Over the past few days, I have learnt so many new things and had many fantastic experiences. I can’t wait for September!’ - Abi
  • ‘A useful experience’ - Holly
  • ‘I think the taster days have been a great way to experience what QEHS is really like’ - Harry
  • ‘These three days have been a great experience’ - Louise
