Thank you to everyone who joined us for our carol service at Hexham Abbey on Monday evening and to families and friends who have supported the school throughout the Autumn Term.

On behalf of the staff of Hexham Middle School, we would like to wish everyone a very happy and peaceful Christmas.

School will close for Christmas on Friday 18 December 2015 and will re-open on Tuesday 5 January 2016.

We have created bulletins for parents/carers regarding how to support pupils' progress in Maths and English at home. Issue 2 of Supporting English at Home for Year 6 and Supporting Maths at Home for Year 6 are now available. The Supporting Maths and English at Home page also contains informative documents relating to the English and Maths Curriculums, which will be added to throughout the year.

On Friday 11 December, 15 HMS pupils were invited to Hexham Priory School to watch their first Christmas performances of 2015. It was a privilege for us to visit the school and we received such a warm welcome from the pupils and staff. The Primary Department performed first and wowed us with their confidence, costumes and excellent singing. Next up was the Secondary Department who delivered an entertaining performance of the 'Twelve Days of Christmas' with the days including X Factor performances, footballers scoring and present opening! Our pupils loved the visit and we look forward to visiting more in the future.

Important information from HMS and Northumberland County Council for Parents/Carers regarding adverse weather conditions is now available.

Following the successful introduction of our English Leaders team at HMS, we have now appointed a group of Year 7 Maths Leaders. The response from our Year 7 pupils was fantastic but unfortunately, at this stage, we could only select a small group of leaders. Our team of pupils will work in classes and at lunchtimes to support and challenge younger pupils in their mathematics learning. This will provide pupils with a high level of peer support. Not only will this be beneficial for our younger pupils, it will also allow the leaders to develop their own maths knowledge and allow them to take on a 'teaching' role. We look forward to welcoming the team into our maths lessons and sharing news of their impact over the course of the year!

The HMS newsletter contains school news, information about upcoming events in and outside of school, general notices for parents/carers and dates for your diary.

An electronic copy of the latest edition (4 December 2015) is available on the Publications page.
