Chloe Daykin - KS2 Author Visit
On Monday 17 July 2017, Key Stage Two pupils were treated to an hour-long presentation from local author (and mum of two of our pupils!) Chloe Daykin. Her first novel, Fish Boy, went down well with the pupils, who enjoyed learning about where Chloe takes inspiration from and how she became an author. In addition, there were lots of fish-related activities which were enjoyed by all. Afterwards, pupils were able to purchase signed copies of the novel and were treated to a meet-and-greet session with Chloe. We look forward to welcoming her back again when her second novel is published.

On Thursday, a group of Year 5 pupils (along with Mr Watters and Mrs Toor) had a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a day of education in the wilderness! The day was hosted by the organisation 'Wilderness Schooling' in the stunning grounds of Wallington. Whilst there, the pupils worked outside for most of the day. They explored the environment for vocabulary inspiration before learning to write individual and group poems. After this, we planned performances, listened to magical stories and played games around the camp fire! The pupils absolutely loved the day – it was a joy to see them enjoying the outdoor learning experience and watching their confidence flourish as the day progressed!

Earlier in the year, Daniel Giuliani (Year 7) impressed judges with his Pea, Parsley and Parmesan Risotto and got through to the final of the Young Pea Chef of the Year competition, sponsored by Pro Cook and Waitrose. Since then, the public have had the chance to vote for their favourite pea inspired recipe.
Hexham Middle school received the brilliant news last week that Daniel has been crowned the winner of the Secondary school category. His delicious risotto recipe received the most votes from across the country and really highlighted the versatility of peas as an ingredient.
Daniel will now have his recipe published in the Yes Peas! recipe book which will be sold nationally. The school will also receive £500 worth of ProCook cookery equipment. Congratulations Daniel!
