As you may know, all the schools in our area are short of funds and Hexham Middle is no exception. You can help by donating any old or unwanted clothes.

Simply drop off any good quality unwanted clothes or accessories to the Cash for Clothes shop in Hexham and mention that your donation is on behalf of Hexham Middle School. For every 1kg received, Cash for Clothes will pay 40p to HMS PTA through an account.

The shop is situated on Maidens Walk opposite Marks & Spencer. If you are unable to take clothes to the shop, your child can take small bags directly to school where they will be held in Orchard Block before being collected and taken to the shop for donation.

For more information, please see the flyer from HMS PTA.

The HMS newsletter contains school news, information about upcoming events in and outside of school, general notices for parents/carers and dates for your diary.

An electronic copy of the latest edition (May 2017) is available on the Publications page.

Whenever you buy anything online you could be raising a free donation for Hexham Middle School. There are nearly 3,000 retailers including supermarkets, department stores, and mobile phone, insurance, energy and holiday companies, who will donate a percentage of the amount you spend to the school to say thank you for shopping with them.

We’ve raised £173 for the school so far, but £149 of this is from just three individuals.

It's really simple, and doesn't cost you anything. All you have to do is:

  1. Go to https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/hexhammiddleschool/
  2. Sign up for free
  3. Get shopping – your donations will be collected by easyfundraising and automatically sent to the school.

There are no catches or hidden charges and we will be really grateful for your donations.

Our communication system (School Gateway) has an app available which allows you to receive texts and access on-line payments for dinner money or school trips. Texts sent to users of the app are free and help the school save money. We currently only have 23% of parents using the app and, we’d like to encourage you to start using it.

To download it:

  • Go to your Play Store or App Store and search for School Gateway and download it.
  • Once installed, open it and click on New User
  • Enter your email address & mobile number – they must match the ones we hold in school for you.
  • You will be sent a PIN by text – use this to log in

Pea, Parsley and Parmesan Risotto by Daniel Giuliani

Before the Easter holidays HMS pupils had the opportunity to enter the Young Pea Chef of the Year Competition 2017, sponsored by Waitrose and Pro Cook.

Last week we received good news that Daniel Giuliani in Year 7 has been selected as a finalist. The expert panel of judges which included TV chef Rachel Green and experts from The British Growers Association, Fen Peas, Waitrose and Pro Cook were really impressed by Daniel’s Pea, Parsley and Parmesan Risotto.

They received hundreds of creative pea-inspired recipes from budding young chefs across the country and Daniel’s has made the final five in the secondary school category.

The UK Mathematics Trust have this year launched their Junior Challenge. We were delighted that some groups from our Year 8 pupils were able to take part in the national challenge on Thursday 27 April 2017. Mrs Bond and Mr Graham led the challenge and both enjoyed solving the problems as well! Well done to the pupils and we look forward to hearing of your successes once the marking is complete!

Mr Watters.
