On Monday 29 January 2018 we had the privilege of asking 'Mr Speaker of the House', Rt Hon Mr John Bercow MP, a range of questions as part of an initiative known as 'Skype the Speaker'.
In Fellside Hall this morning, School Councillors and Members of Parliament were able to ask questions directly to Mr Speaker.
At 9:30am we went live and a range of questions were asked covering topics such as Brexit, life as Speaker of the House, issues that affect education today, controversial figures in national and world politics, and his personal interests.
Mr Speaker commended the pupils that represented Hexham Middle School for being very well prepared and he said that he would pass on his praise to our local MP here in Hexham.
Peter J Murray: book launch
The ever-popular author and friend of the school Peter J Murray visited this week to launch the sixth and final book in the Mokee Joe series: Mokee Joe, Scourge of the Emirates. We were privileged enough to be the first school in the North East to be host to the book launch for this novel and the visit, as ever, was a huge success.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our carol service at Hexham Abbey on Monday evening and to families and friends who have supported the school throughout the Autumn Term.
On behalf of the staff of Hexham Middle School, we would like to wish everyone a very happy and peaceful Christmas.
School will close for Christmas on Friday 22 December 2017 and will re-open on Monday 8 January 2018.
HMS PTA: Festive Pop-Up Shop
The PTA are organising a Festive Pop-Up Shop in school at lunchtime on Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 December 2017. Children will be able to choose a gift from a selection of donated items and have their gift wrapped. All gifts will be sold for £2 (including wrapping).
All money raised will help the PTA fund more events and activities for HMS pupils and teachers.
Children who want to buy a gift can bring in £2 on Tuesday or Wednesday and visit the Festive Pop-Up Shop at lunchtime. PTA members will be on hand to staff the shop and help with advice. There will also be Year 8 pupils wrapping gifts and helping your child write out name tags.
This is a great opportunity to help raise money for the PTA as well as let your child do their festive shopping and not break the bank!
Many thanks in advance!

Year 7 TSF Workshop
On Wednesday morning, a group of Year 7 students welcomed John Cobb, from local theatre group 'Theatre Sans Frontieres' to lead a drama workshop. The group worked on a scene from the Sherlock Holmes story, 'The Tale of the Speckled Band', which they're currently studying in English. It was an enjoyable and engaging workshop and the pupils worked extremely hard.
