e-Safety

  • e-Safety at HMS
  • Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP)

We all use technology in our everyday lives and it is vital that we are able to use it safely. In the event that we feel unsafe about something, we need to know what to do.

Through assembly and lessons pupils will discuss the potential issues, hazards and precautions you can take when spending time in online environments such as chat rooms, online gaming worlds, IM, online shopping, email, SMS and social networking sites. To refresh these topics, or to learn more about internet safety, use the links below.

Hexham Middle School has an acceptable use policy (AUP) that endeavours to ensure maximum online safety whilst we are in the school environment by educating all of our community and preventing access to non-educational sites.

To read the Acceptable Use Policy, and our full e-Safety Policy, please see our Policies page.

CEOP, the Child Exploitation and Online Protection command, has a wealth of information about e-Safety for parents and pupils.

Safeguarding

  • Safeguarding at HMS
  • Operation Encompass

We recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued.

The designated safeguarding lead at HMS is Amanda Frankish, Deputy Headteacher. The deputy designated safeguarding lead is Fiona Cave, Head of KS2.

The nominated child protection trustee for Hadrian Learning Trust is Kate Chaplin.

For our full Child Protection Policy, please see our Policies page.

What is Operation Encompass?

The purpose of Operation Encompass is to safeguard and support children and young people who have been involved in a domestic abuse incident. Following an incident at home, children will often arrive at school distressed, upset and unprepared for the day.

Northumberland County Council, the police and nominated Key Adults in school will be working together to make sure that school staff are made aware of an incident early enough to support pupils in school.
