North East Book Award 2016
Written by Isabel and Matthew, Year 7.
On the evening of Tuesday 7 June 2016, 14 pupils from Year 7 travelled to the Centre for Life in Newcastle. At the Centre for Life, we walked into the conference centre and joined many other North East schools to attend the ceremony announcing the winner of the North East Book Award 2016. As part of the award, book clubs from the different schools read the nominated children’s books to judge which was their favourite.
Unfortunately, only three of the five nominated authors could make the event, Jo Cotterill, Gill Lewis and Ross Welford. However, it was very interesting to listen to the speeches from the three who attended. In the end, the winner was Jo Cotterill, who wrote ‘Looking at the Stars’. Overall, it was a very enjoyable and interesting event.

HMS did brilliantly well: Hexham A won overall, Hexham B came second and Hexham C came third overall. It was a great result which made Mr Gaines very proud. Hexham A now go onto the finals to represent Tynedale at Cramington on Wednesday 22 June 2016.
HMS Cricket Achievements
Year 6 pupils from HMS took part in the Chance to Shine cricket competition at Stocksfield Cricket Club. The event was organised by Tom Cant, who had been into school and delivered coaching sessions. We entered two boys teams and one girls team. I am delighted to say that both the boys' A team and the girls' team won their competitions and now go onto the County final on Wednesday 22 June 2016.
