Year 6 Football Competition
Year 6 boys' football team took part in the West Tyne 7a side competition this week. They played four games and were undefeated. Unfortunately, drawing two games meant they came second. It was a great team display and Mr Gaines is looking forward to a strong showing in the Year 6 league this year.
Visiting Author: Peter J Murray
Children across Years 5-8 were captivated and thrilled by the presentations delivered by the visiting author Peter J Murray this week on 26 - 28 September 2016. His engaging presentations, delivered separately to both Key Stage 2 and 3, were very exciting and entertaining. He spoke of his childhood, where he takes inspiration from for novel-writing and even shared with us some extracts from his best-selling novels. Afterwards, pupils were keen to purchase novels and get them signed by the author himself!
We would like to offer you the opportunity to meet your child’s form tutor at a pastoral evening and discuss with them how your child has settled into this new academic year.
The pastoral evenings will take place on Thursday 13 October 2016 (for the parents/carers of children with the surname A-L) and Wednesday 19 October 2016 (for the parents/carers of children with the surname M-Z). These evenings will start at 4.00pm and finish at 5.30pm.
You will shortly be receiving a questionnaire (available here as a PDF document) which I would ask you to complete by Wednesday 5 October 2016 and return to your child’s form tutor.
We look forward to seeing you and thank you for your continued support.
No Pens Day 2016
On Wednesday 5 October 2016, pupils and staff at HMS will once again put down their pens and pencils for a day of no writing! Following a successful day of events last year, we have once again signed up to this special day. No Pens Day encourages schools to focus on the importance of great speaking, listening and communication. Pupils will enjoy a wide range of stimulating and engaging learning opportunities; all of which they will have to approach without the reliance on writing to communicate! Keep an eye out for photos to document the imaginative and creative lessons we come up with to enjoy the day!
Year 6: Supporting English & Maths
Welcome to a new year at HMS! We are really pleased with how our Year 6 pupils have settled into their English and maths learning. We will be sending home bulletins throughout the year which, we hope, will provide you lots of information that will help your child with their home learning; see below for an electronic copy of the first bulletins. As always, please get in touch with us with any questions you may have. We thank you for your continued support with homework; it is hugely appreciated.
Mr Watters (Head of Maths) and Mrs Roff (Head of English).
