You may be aware that Hexham Police have advised the school that they have concerns that there is an adult posing as a young girl who is requesting photographs and personal information from middle-school aged children on Instagram.
I would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to have a positive conversation about your child’s use of social media and the need to protect themselves from unwelcome and inappropriate contact. Should your child have had any similar contact I would advise the following:
- Preserve any evidence (screen shots or text messages, email or social media usernames etc.)
- Block and report the person via the platform (Facebook, Instagram, twitter etc.)
- Should you have serious concerns i.e. if the person is demanding images, asking to meet, sending material which is inappropriate you should contact the local police using the 101 service. Be sure to let them know the age of the child, the nature of the activity and details of any evidence you may have.
- Should the contact be of a sexual, harmful or threatening nature you can also report it to CEOP (CEOP ‘report abuse’ button can be found on the school website or by internet search) and an officer will get in touch with you.
Girls' NE & Cumbria Rugby Tournament

The girls played extremely well; in the first round they won 2 and drew 2. They played Workington, Teesdale, Newminster, and Dukes House. Having won their group they played the final against Netherall another Cumbrian Team, and therefore bidding for a place in the National Finals. Unfortunately the Cumbrian side were too strong and we lost by only 3 tries. Well done girls and tremendous effort.
Rugby Team: Victoria M, Lucy C, Hannah F, Jessica H, Beyonce F, Iona M, Olivia S, Olivia S, Josie L, and Jennifer T.

Year 6 After-School Boosters
Mr Watters, Miss Johnson and Miss France are running after-school Maths and English sessions for the next few weeks for our Year 6 pupils. For your child to attend, they must sign up and return a parental permission slip (letters available from the teachers). Maths runs on a Monday evening and English on a Thursday (both 3.30pm - 4.30pm). Our Year 6 pupils are working extremely hard in the build-up to the SATs in May; we are really proud of them! Please remember to sign their 'Reward Cards' every time they use one of our recommended revision resources at home! Thanks for your on-going support.
Mr Watters and Miss Johnson
The Big Times Tables Challenge
We are very excited to launch our first 'BIG TIMES TABLES CHALLENGE' for our Year 5 pupils. From Monday, every form class in Year 5 will spend one of their form times completing mini times table challenges. Every week the percentage of correct answers in the class will be collected. Over the course of four weeks, pupils will be able to practise their times tables in their maths group and in form time. This builds us up to the final 'Big Challenge!' where pupils will really have to show off their gained knowledge and recall of multiplication facts.
The winning form class will receive a special GOLDEN TIME treat!

Year 8 STEM Day - 19 April 2016
On Tuesday 19 April 2016, our Year 8 pupils will engage in a day of exciting STEM activities. These sessions will be led by visiting staff from Newcastle University and by our own specialist teaching staff. Sessions will include: ‘Mystery Maths’ (a problem solving development session) and Computer Science as well as exciting Maths, Design Technology and Science activities.
This cross-curricular day will immerse our Year 8 pupils in the world of STEM and will hopefully generate excitement and discussion that will translate into classroom learning over the coming half term.
We hope you agree that this day will provide a fantastic learning experience and we look forward to sharing feedback from the day!
