No Pens Wednesday 2015
On Wednesday 7 October 2015, pupils and staff at HMS put down their pens and pencils and enjoyed a day of no writing! A day of no writing sounds fun for some, but what was the focus of our day? We were highlighting the need for great communication and good speaking and listening skills, and focussing on activities which relied on these skills. Everyone had a fantastic day! Learning included: building human bridges in DT, acting out scenes from Oliver Twist, developing large models of human body systems and role-playing oxygen on its journey around the body! Every lesson, all day was developed to promote opportunities for great speaking and listening. We look forward to this day next year!
The HMS newsletter contains school news, information about upcoming events in and outside of school, general notices for parents/carers and dates for your diary.

Year 7 Macmillan Cake Sale
On Friday 25th September class 7JKW managed to raise £164.73 in just fifteen minutes! During the week before the sale, the children worked really hard to make and decorate lots of cakes to sell. On the day, all of the effort was worth it – there were so many cakes from chocolate orange cake to Minion cupcakes! I have to say that I did try some and they were unbelievably good! It was all for a great cause – Macmillan cancer support. All of the money we raised will help support a lot of people. We have to owe it to Miss Johnson and Miss Kwella for organising the whole thing – a big well done to 7JKW too!
Tour of Britain Display
HMS students were incredibly excited about the tour of Britain coming through Hexham, which led to our Year Six classes creating a large bike on the school field, using individual whiteboards and copies of the Northumberland flag. They hoped to be caught by the media helicopter's camera, as they turned the bike's wheels.
Well done, Year Six!
Tour of Britain
The Tour of Britain cycle race is coming to Hexham on Thursday, 10 September. This is an exciting event for our county, town and indeed school. However, it will result in road closures. Please find attached information provided in a press release from Northumberland County Council which details the route and the road closures.
