Assembly
We value the contribution that assemblies make to enriching pupils’ personal development. When pupils convene as a year group, it creates a greater sense of community. Coming together, once a week, to receive a themed assembly, allows pupils to explore their understanding and appreciation of the world (including spiritual, moral, cultural and social dimensions), aspects of their own personal development, safety and wellbeing, and the world of work. Much thought has been given to the themes and sequencing of our assembly programme. We highlight specific national or international awareness days as well as seek to build upon learning that takes place within the classroom. Sometimes, assemblies can be an excellent introductory platform for new concepts which pupils then gain greater levels of knowledge and understanding in, applying what they have learned in different contexts and subjects.
Please find information below about our assembly schedule for this term. If you would like to have a discussion about any topics, please feel free to make contact initially with your child’s form tutor who will then liaise with the relevant key stage Pastoral Leader or staff member delivering the assembly.
We encourage parents/carers to explore our assembly themes and unpick the focus Skills Builder skill as well as the spotlight character trait. Thank you in advance to all parents/carers for your support in the reinforcement of key messages shared.
Assembly and Form Time Overview
Summer Term 1
Our assembly themes this term highlight some key areas of personal development and citizenship. Our first assembly will delve into one of our positive moral character traits. Mr Armstrong will help to tease out an understanding of Justice. We will gain a perspective on how this relates to school life but also in an international context. Mrs Roff returns for the third time this year, providing a teaching and learning focus on Revision and Retention. Mr Rutherford-Orrock will share an assembly all about citizenship; at the start of the year all pupils had a focus in PSHE on what community means and developing a sense of belonging. We look forward to him building links between the concept of citizenship and our school value of Engage. Our final assembly of the half term is led by Mr Cameron. We will learn more about some relevant issues that affect society, not just in modern-day Britain but sadly much wider across parts of the world. Racism and extremism is something challenged by law and our democratic systems. Mr Cameron will take a look at how both racism and extremism have played out, including sport, and the positive ways these can be challenged through sport.

Summer Term 2
Assemblies throughout this half term focus on some key themes including: the growth of advanced technology in life; how Great Experiences can help define us as a person; Social Mobility; saying “Thank You”, and finally, Great Leadership. This year we are inviting our senior pupil leadership team.
(Head Pupils and House Captaincy Team) to share a farewell speech to all year groups.
