Make Future Engineers – Careers Focus

A group of Year 6 pupils had a great time during our ‘Make Future Engineers’ programme with Newcastle University when they visited Osbit at The Port of Blyth. This was a great experience which gave our pupils the chance to engage with real life engineers who are involved in solving engineering problems related to renewable energy and cable infrastructure.

Our pupils are involved in a project to design a floating wind turbine, which will be tested at the wave pool in the Armstrong Building at Newcastle University. At Osbit, pupils applied their knowledge of renewable energy. We had the chance to get up close with a trencher machine, which will shortly be heading out to sea to lay subsea cables.  Our pupils also got the chance to see the control rooms being used to operate this machine. This opportunity helps our pupils to gain a meaningful experience with an employer as well as having the opportunity to visit a workplace. Thank you to the team at Osbit who helped us bring this experience to life.
