U14 Girls’ County 7s Tournament at Cochrane Park
Fresh from their success at Dame Allan’s 7s the previous week, the QEHS and HMS girls returned to Cochrane Park for the U14 County 7s competition. With excellent depth in this age group, we entered two teams—one Year 8 and one Year 9. Despite some late withdrawals from other schools, leaving only three teams in total, the afternoon still delivered competitive and entertaining rugby.
The format saw matches played on a full‑size pitch, a change from the week before. While the larger field demanded more physical effort, the girls rose to the challenge and adapted well.
Match 1: Year 9 vs Prudhoe
The Year 9s opened the afternoon against a largely inexperienced Prudhoe side and immediately set the tone. Dominating both territory and possession, they ran out convincing 9–2 winners.

Next up, the Year 8s took on Prudhoe—playing a team a year older but showing no signs of intimidation. What followed was a superb team performance, full of pace, teamwork, and clinical finishing. The Y8s secured an impressive 8–1 victory.

Match 3: Year 9 vs Year 8
The final match provided the contest of the day: the all‑Hexham derby. Both teams produced an excellent display of sevens rugby—end‑to‑end, full of ambition, and played in fantastic spirit. The Year 9s eventually emerged 7–3 winners, but both sides earned praise, with the older girls commenting on how competitive and talented the Year 8 squad is.

Special mention has to go to injured player Martha, who expertly took on the team manager role.
Across the afternoon, all players represented QEHS and HMS superbly. Their skill, teamwork, and attitude—both on and off the pitch—were a credit to the schools. It was a pleasure to take them to the tournament, and their performances promise exciting things for the future.
Respect. Engage. Aspire.
