Netball Update

Last Thursday evening, our Year 7 and 8 netball teams played their first netball matches of this year at Cramlington Learning Village, against Cramlington, Bede Academy and Ovingham Middle School. The girls were an absolute credit to the school, displaying respect, exceptional engagement and determination throughout the evening.

Our first game was against Bede Academy, where our Year 7 team narrowly lost with the final result ending 7-4. The girls played extremely well and well done to Iona R, who was nominated as players’ player. After a difficult first half where our Year 8 team were losing to Bede, they made a very strong comeback in the second half and won their first game with the final result 19-13 to HMS. Thank you to Elise C, Jess H and Claudia M who played up a year for our Year 8s in this game, and well done to Elise C who was nominated as players’ player.

Our second games were against Cramlington, where both HMS teams won. Our Year 7 team faced a competitive challenge in both halves, but worked exceptionally hard to win 5-4. Well done to Claudia M, who was nominated as players’ player. Our Year 8 team comfortably won their second game, with the result finishing 21-1 to HMS and Maja M made her debut as GS in the second half and even scoring her first goal! It was a pleasure to see our Year 8s also demonstrate their coaching and leadership skills throughout this game, especially Emily D, Lizzie L and Elsie L, who helped the opposing team. Well done to Emily D, who was nominated as players’ player.

Unfortunately, in our third and final games against Ovingham Middle School, both our teams lost, with Year 7 finishing 8-4 and Year 8 finishing 6-4. This was definitely the most challenging and competitive game for both teams, but well done to all our goal scorers and to all players for not giving up, and continuing to play some lovely netball. Well done to Jess H, who was nominated as players’ player for Year 7 and Holly W, who was nominated as players’ player for Year 8.

Miss Hopper would like to say a final thank you to all students involved and thank you to our captains for the evening, who helped manage and organise their teams – Jess D (Year 7) and Lizzie L (Year 8 ). Well done to all students and thank you for giving up your Thursday evening. Miss Hopper is looking forward to continuing to work with you all and play more matches after Christmas!
