This week, we were very lucky to welcome Kielder Observatory into school for our Stargazing Evening – thank you so much to Adam and James from Kielder Observatory. We were privileged to enjoy the planetarium where James led parents and pupils in a 20 minute tour of the night sky to learn more about constellations. Adam led a range of activities including looking at ‘Space Rocks’, making paper straw rockets, glow-in-the-dark bracelets and looking at telescopes.
The clouds were our nemesis, as is often the case, but Adam rigged up via a Raspberry Pi/mobile phone system – a simulated view through the Dobsonian telescope – where pupils were able to visualise the quality of images you can see with these telescopes. A very inspirational event all round!
Respect. Engage. Aspire.
