HMS were in athletics action at the School Cup. 22 athletes travelled to Gateshead stadium to compete in the first event of the season. The competition is always tough as we are one of the few state schools to participate. Each time and distance is converted to a point score, the school with the highest points total wins the competition.
UK Maths ChallengeWe always look forward to the annual UK Junior Maths Challenge which encourages reasoning, precision of thought and fluency. The maths team have been so impressed with the positive engagement and the results. A HUGE well done to Arthur D and Will C in Year 8 who have achieved the ‘Gold Award’. Our Year 5 pupils love their Forest School lessons! The ‘Fellside Forest’ is always a calming, focused area for exploration and creativity! This week, the children applied this term’s ‘Skills Builder’ focus of ‘Creativity’ whilst making forest sprites. It is always great to see such excellent communication, teamwork and problem solving down in the forest school area.

Our Eurovision summer fair is on Friday 26 May. Students can come to school in their own clothes if they would like to or they can wear their uniform. If you’d like to donate a tombola prize, they can be dropped off with form tutors.

Over 50 Year 5 pupils have taken part in Bikeability Cycle Training this week. We were so pleased to see so much positive engagement in developing a key life skill. The instructors have been so impressed with the maturity and focus of our pupils. Well done everyone!
