Skills

We value the development of essential, transferable skills which pupils can use as they progress throughout their school career and beyond.  As a Skills Builder school we provide opportunities during the tutorial programme for pupils to learn more about essential skills including: speaking, listening, problem solving, creativity, staying positive, aiming high, teamwork and leadership.  We are currently a Bronze accredited school for the Skills Builder Programme and are committed to building on this, as part of our wider personal development offer for pupils.

For more information on how adults can support young people in developing the 8 essential Skills Builder skills, we recommend that parents/carers access the Skills Builder Homezone. Pupils are able to undertake a series of challenges and reflections.

There are 6 moral positive traits that we value at HMS. This includes courage, generosity, justice, humility, integrity and honesty. We focus on one of these traits each half term. Our head pupil and house captaincy teams deliver assemblies on these themes.
