Year 7 Football

We have discovered that Mr Barry is so good at writing sports commentary that we’re going to feature his match round-ups on our website and social media feeds! Here are the recent successes of our Year 7 Boys’ football team:

It was the turn of the Year 7 boys in the 7 a-side cup. With all of the schools in the area playing it was going to prove a tough challenge.

In game 1 we faced hosts Highfield who were a very strong side who created a lot of chances early on but a combination of great defending and James Craig’s goal keeping kept us in the game.  In the second half we created much more and 2 clear chances falling to Sam Davison and Isaac Prentice were agonisingly close but 0-0 the final score.

In game 2, pre-tournament favourites Ovingham were the opponents and this was arguably our best performance of the day. After an early Ovingham chance HMS started to dominate. The front 4 of Max, Sam, Ollie and Isaac caused problems and in total we hit the frame of the goal 4 times and forced a number of key saves from the goal keeper. Again HMS defended brilliantly! 0-0 the final score.

Game 3 and Corbridge were the opponents. In this game the boys really started to find their rhythm and created lots of chances.  Corbridge looked dangerous and great tackles by Eden, Alex and Ben Brownless put an end to them. Taylor continued some strong rums down the middle and it lead to the deadlock finally being broken by a jubilant Max Gradwell. 1-0 final score

Game 4 and the opponents were St Joseph’s Middle. In a game where confidence was much higher every player worked extremely hard. The deadlock was broken after great play by Eden getting the ball to Isaac who put in a great cross for Ollie to head home a Shearer-style header. In the second half Sam Davison hammered home a second and Max tucked home a third from distance. 3-0 final score.

In the final game against Haltwhistle the boys started very quickly and Sam Davison grabbed a great solo goal and Oliver Furness netted the goal of the day shortly after. 2-0 final.score

Due to the draws at the start we finished 2nd in the league without conceding a goal, narrowly missing out.

A fantastic effort all round! Huge thank you to Mr Drummond for coming with us!
