Mr Barry’s Sports Round-Up

We have had a lot of great sports fixtures recently! Here’s a recap of all the games:

Year 6 Girls Futsal

Year 6 girls played extremely well at futsal last Wednesday and started with a great 2-1 win, with Estella scoring two rockets and Elissa keeping us in it at the end.

We were narrowly beaten by a clinical Byker side 2-1 and despite the efforts of Grace and Matilda we couldn’t get an equaliser.

We got back to winning ways with a fantastic brace by Maria and extra-ordinary defending by Emily and Rowan to lead us to a 2-0 win.

We were however beaten by Ponteland in the end, which resulted in third place. A great showing by the girls who have their county cup semi-final after half term.

KS3 Girls Netball

Both Year 7 and Year 8 girls played very well against a very strong Cramlington side! The girls are getting back into competitive netball now and this was a great test. High praise for many of our players. We have been challenged to a return bout at HMS in the next term.

Year 7 Boys Football

This was a contender for game of the season!

It was a match filled with skill, desire and passion. Cramlington took the lead mid-way through the first half and HMS who, due to illness and injury, were left with no substitutes on the day were defending for most of the first half.

Superb breaks by Max, Ben and Archie (on a number of occasions) almost saw us level at the break but it wasn’t to be. The second half had everything.  Will and Ben made last-ditch tackles. Taylor marshalled perfectly and Max was a threat every time he got the ball. However, Isaac played one of the best passes I have seen at this level 30 yards direct into the path of an on-rushing Oliver who was inches away from equalising. Dean, who played incredible all over the pitch, almost levelled with 15 minutes to go.

At this point the netball had finished and all the girls came to the pitch to cheer on the boys. It gave them an extra gear and despite the tired legs, five more chances came and went agonisingly wide. Cameron was standing in as keeper and made some great saves! Every single player was outstanding and the moment where the HMS teams came together was incredible! Despite the results a great night for sport and showcased why HMS are succeeding this year with such a great determination and effort.

Year 6 Boys Football

Last Thursday the Year 6 boys were in County Cup action against NCEA.

The game started well as Luke slotted home the opener early on. In windy conditions, however, two long balls saw us concede two goals after that and fall behind.  Luke and Josh on the wings were proving dangerous and almost got a breakthrough before half time.

Into the second half man of the match Aidan and Daniel helped defend a bombardment of aerial balls early on. Joe and James linked up well to see James dance around three players before sending the ball into the top corner: 2-2.

David then performed heroics in goal to tip the ball around the post. Less than a minute later Ted played a great pass for Alex to slot home: 3-2. The move was then repeated for 4-2. Charlie helped see the game out with a number of great tackles.

4-2 final score. HMS are into the County semi-final at home to Highfield, who are the current holders, in the next round.
