Rugby News Update for Years 7 and 8

🏉 Year 8 County Rugby Competition 🏉

Well done to our Year 8s who travelled to Blyth on Thursday to compete against other schools in the county. They played 3 games in total, playing some positive rugby overall. Our first game was a tough one, but we started very strongly against a strong NSB side with Thomas M going over for a really well-worked team try. Ultimately though, NSB’s quality shone through as they ran in five tries against us.
In our second game against Marden, it was a see-saw of a game with both teams evenly matched in both defence and attack. Thomas M and Theo both went over for great scores to even the game at 2-2, but then Marden ran through in the last play of the game to pinch the win.

In our third game, HMS started quickly out of the blocks to score four first half tries. Charlie C, Archie J (x2) and Aidan M crossed over to reward fine individual performances. In the second half, Blyth hit back with some good scores of their own but HMS extended their lead with tries from Theo, Hayden M and Archie J completing a fine hat trick!

An extra shout out for Nick T and Leo C who played their first rugby games and performed really well.

🏉 Year 7 Rugby Festival 🏉

Our Year 7’s enjoyed a fantastic morning at Corbridge on Friday for a local rugby festival. This was our lads’ first experience of playing school rugby together. Whilst the festival was all about promoting participation and the development of rugby, we still played some competitive games against other local schools.

After a really difficult start against Corbridge, the boys grew in confidence as the morning went on and only lost narrowly in their next game (7-5) to Ovingham with Tommy D scoring 2 tries and Riley G scoring three.

In their third game, HMS managed to secure an entertaining draw (6-6) with tries coming from Ollie K (x2), Rhys D (x2), Riley and Heorhii. Confidence was growing in the group and the boys were performing well!

Their final game was against Ovingham for the second time as both teams finished 3rd & 4th in their group. HMS played out another really entertaining draw (4-4) which was an improvement from their earlier game. Tries score by Felix H, Rory M, Tommy D & Bertie L.

The boys should be really proud of their first round of games and the future looks promising!

Respect. Engage. Aspire.
