European Day of Languages

It is European Day of Languages on Thursday 26 September 2019. We will be celebrating the day by running the following activities:

International Themed Menu

There will be an international themed menu in the canteen on the day: Day of Languages Menu (PDF). Please note that we will be serving croissants, pain au chocolat and waffles at break time alongside our usual offering. These items are all priced at 60p.

If your child would like to try the lunch on Thursday but usually brings a packed lunch, please send them into school with £2.50 (which will cover the cost of a main meal and dessert) in an envelope marked with their name, class and ‘European Day of Languages’. We ask that pupils place their payment envelope into the red lunch money box on the wall in Orchard, Fellside or Beaumont buildings.

We will also offer a selection of sandwiches, salads and jacket potatoes as an alternative should your child not wish to take part in the themed menu.

European Day of Languages Bake-Off Challenge

A European-themed cake competition will take place on the day. Should your child wish to take part, they should bring their entry to F6 before 8.50am on Thursday 26 September 2019. Cakes will be judged at break time and winning entries (1st, 2nd and 3rd) will receive a prize. There will be a bake sale at lunchtime where money raised will be donated to a local charity. Cakes will be judged on taste, texture and how MFL-themed the cake is.

Also, your child’s cake should:

  • represent a European country
  • contain a flag of the chosen country
  • if possible, include a photo of your child baking the cake.

Foreign Film Showing

There will showing of Ratatouille (in French with English subtitles) in F6 on Friday 27 September 2019 at lunchtime. This is open to 30 pupils. If your child wishes to watch the film they should see Mr Armstrong to sign up. Pupils will need to bring a packed lunch on the day.
