We had a great day celebrating World Book Day with a range of activities yesterday. This included some fantastic entries in our ‘Bake a Book’ competition – we are always so impressed by the talent of HMS pupils. Pupils who wished to attended in fancy dress as a character from their favourite book. We also had a book swap shop,
KS2 students were able to design a tote bag and tie dye them with different colour dyes and patterns then they drew upon the bags with fabric pens with their favourite design. Don’t they look fabulous?
Would you like to see your artwork on display in the Royal Academy of Art Gallery in London? If so, a competition is now open to students aged 4-19 Each student can submit one piece of artwork and there is no theme. HAPPY FEEL GOOD FRIDAY! At HMS, we work hard to raise awareness and the importance of talking about mental health and wellbeing. Today is Feel Good Friday and we hope to hear laughter, music and enjoy some fresh (very chilly) air while exercising outdoors! ‘Feel Good Friday’ is happening again this year and on Friday 11th February, pupils and staff at HMS will be spending some time focusing on mental health and wellbeing. Last week, as part of our Chinese New Year celebrations (which takes place on Tuesday 1st February) Mandarin Club pupils have enjoyed learning about and making Chinese dumplings. Following a demonstration from our Mandarin teacher, pupils were able to decide how to shape their dumplings. The crescent-shaped dumplings symbolise the brightness of the moon and the promise of a bright and prosperous year ahead. Pupils
Last week, on Thursday 27 January, it was Holocaust memorial day. This day marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. During last week’s assembly (now on our Assemblies webpage), Mr Johnson spoke about the Holocaust as well as genocide throughout history. This is a sensitive topic yet one which carries some important messages for our pupils
